Overview

 

Clinical Sports Psychology (CSP) is the utilization of proven clinical interventions within the sports/athletic setting to maximize player or team performance during practice and competition. CSP enhances performance, helps prevent premature burnout and over-training, reduces the risk of injury and speeds physical health, mental health and rehabilitation.

 

Dr. Burte combines cognitive behavioral interventions (self-talk), clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, psychoneuroimmunology, pain management, psychopharmacology, and clinical psychology within the domain of sports psychology, to address players total functioning.This leads to significant improvement in athletic performance for his clients.

A typical performance enhancement training session with Dr. Burte may consist of:

  • Focusing on an athletic movement or perception (either properly or improperly performed) through repetition of the movement or perception.
  • Listening to the client’s unique cognitive self-talk, images or sensations, which arise associated with the movement.
  • Move to an internally directed state (i.e., hypnosis or visualization) in order to examine and eliminate negative subconscious ‘experiences’, which arise and may be limiting the performance.
  • Learning how to replace these with performance-enhancing statements images, sensations or “cues” in training and competitive setting.
  • Reviewing subsequent training or competitive performance and add modifications.
